New In; Kathryn Partington Jewellery

29 Jun

The Whitworth Art Gallery Shop is pleased to announce the in-store debut of a beautiful new range of jewellery from artist Kathryn Partington.

Kathryn produces one-off wearable items of jewellery by utilising her
background training within the discipline of tableware ceramics & printed
textiles. By combining these skills the application of surface pattern &
ornamentation is explored by using a diverse range of processes and material
manipulation. This leads to a juxtaposition of simple to complex compositions
by placement & layering to form pieces that can be considered as not just items
of jewellery but pieces of art within their own right.

The Ethereal range is inspired by an 1890 Victorian adaptation of a Japanese style tableware pattern, which is symbolic of the dialogue that exists then & now between Eastern & Western ideas of design. Colours are muted, delicate in tone, precious and subtle, informed by characteristics and Kathryn’s interpretation of the Japanese aesthetic.

The range is available  in store now.

Coming Soon: Living Worlds.

Life's what you make it... We’re pleased to announce that Manchester Museum will be re-opening our famous Mammals Gallery in time for Easter!

Re-named ‘Living Worlds’ to reflect our evolving understanding of nature and the issues that life on Earth faces, the gallery has been subject to massive modernisation and improvements.

To celebrate, the Shop Elves have brought in a whole new range of animal-themed goodies to keep the kids entertained over the long break ahead.

Our Tame Shop Tiger!

No room for a full-sized taxidermied tiger? Why not take home our monster cuddly version instead? (pictured) His name is Pete and the Elves promise that he is easy to care for and fully house trained.

Don’t fancy a tiger? Also in the monster size we have Angus the polar bear, and Steve our red-eyed tree frog. All will be available in the shop from Living World’s grand opening on April 14th.
